What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is gaining momentum in the health world and for good reason. CBD oil (Cannabidiol) is one of the 104 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids and found in cannabis (marijuana plant). Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive cannabinoid and is the cause of the sensation of being 'high'. CBD is however not psychoactive and therefore is not associated with getting 'high'. CBD interacts with the body's natural systems but is non-psychotropic like THC which makes it a safer, less controversial substance but still offering a range of health benefits.

How does CBD Oil work?

CBD has become popular because of its many health and wellness benefits it holds. CBD is popular with people looking for relief of pain and other symptoms without any of the psychoactive features and mind affected traits of marijuana.
CBD oil is made from taking CBD from the cannabis plant and then diluting it with an oil, often coconut or hemp seed oil. CBD oil has many backed health benefits and is the reason for its current popularity

All cannabinoids, including CBD, attach themselves to certain receptors in the body to produce their effects. The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. It has two receptors for cannabinoids, called CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors.

CB1 receptors are found all around the body, but many of them are in the brain. The CB1 receptors in the brain deal with coordination and movement, pain, emotions and mood, thinking, appetite, and memories, among others. THC attaches to these receptors.

CB2 receptors are more common in the immune system. They affect inflammation and pain. It used to be thought that CBD acts on these CB2 receptors, but it appears now that CBD does not act on either receptor directly. Instead, it seems to influence the body to use more of its own cannabinoids.

Benefits of supplementing CBD oil?

Reduce pain:

CBD has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and in particular reduce the pain of multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. CBD is found to reduce pain through impacting endocannabinoid receptor activity which helps to reduce inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters.

Reduce anxiety and depression:

Many studies over the past few years have shown that CBD oil can be a treatment for numerous forms of anxiety, including social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, general anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Anti-inflammatory:

CBD is an effective anti-inflammatory which can help reduce swelling and pain as well as being able to reduce acne due to its anti-inflammatory qualities and its ability to control the overproduction of sebum which is a major cause of acne. CBD has also been shown to help reduce symptoms related to cancer due to potential cancer-fighting properties. However, a lot more research is needed into this.

There are many other potential health benefits of CBD oil making it a very hot topic of conversation in the health and wellness industry.
